GIN at CSW63: side events on religious hate speech and the role of religious actors in preventing gender based violence

[row] [col width=”2/3″] GIN was fortunate to be able to send the Rev Nokuthula Dhladhla, pastor of the House of Prayer and Worship, Soweto, South Africa, and Lini Zurlia, from the ASEAN SOGIE Caucus, herself based in Indonesia, to the Commission on the Status of Women, 63rd session (CSW63).

Lini participated in a side event convened by Article 19 – “Gendering the debate on religious ‘hate speech’: What are gender-responsive strategies to tackle hatred on the basis of religion or belief?” while Nokuthula was invited to speak on our behalf at a side event organised by the UN Task Force on Religion – led by Office for Prevention of Genocide with UN Women; UNAIDS and UNFPA; ACT Alliance – “Preventing gender based violence: the role of religious actors.”

See the video of the latter side event below. Ani Zonnenveld, from Muslims for Progressive Values, and also a GIN member, speaks from 49:15, while the Rev Nokuthula speaks from 56:30.
