GIN-SSOGIE is looking for a Programme Intern to support its advocacy work!

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Global Interfaith Network, a global South/East-focused membership based network comprised of more than 400 members – individuals and organizations – all over the world working on issues of faith, gender and sexuality.

The intern will provide assistance to GIN’s staff, specifically to the advocacy programme, which works in high-level political spaces. The internship is an excellent opportunity for somebody who has an interest in human rights, LGBTI issues and faith and wants to gain experience in working on these matters, within the framework of a global organization, anchored in the Global South/East, and working specifically with the United Nations human rights mechanisms.

This internship is 8 months long and will start on 6th April 2021. The internship is based on virtual work, and the intern can be based anywhere in the world with good internet connection. The exact dates can be flexible, and working hours are from 9am until 5pm CAT (flexible according to your time zone). The candidate should be available to work part-time (20 hours/week). The internship receives financial compensation of EUR 350 per month.

Tasks and requirements for the internship:

The intern candidates should:

  • Have a specific interest in religion and faith issues (being a person of faith is not a requirement)
  • have a specific interest in and commitment to LGBTI/SOGIESC human rights, gender and sexuality;
  • have experience in NGO work, in community or grassroots organizing, advocacy or other activist work (paid or unpaid), preferably in the Global South;
  • be well organized, motivated, a good communicator and able to work remotely;
  • be able to access a good internet connection consistently during the internship;
  • have a good level of written and spoken English;
  • and ideally another language (especially Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Arabic, Chinese, Swahili, Bahasa)

 

Candidates should

  • have basic knowledge of the UN System;
  • possess good research skills in law, policy, social sciences or a relevant field;
  • pay attention to detail
  • have a strong work ethic
  • have strong interpersonal skills and be extremely reliable
  • ideally have some experience of working in multi-cultural contexts

 

Specifics for the internship:

a)    The successful candidate will be expected to perform the following tasks:

  • Research on Special Procedures’ upcoming reports, relevant to GIN and members work, and organize deadlines, inform members ahead of time
  • Support the drafting of GIN inputs for Special Procedures
  • Support the drafting of GIN inputs for the UN SOGI Expert
  • Support GIN staff in the organization of GIN activities in upcoming Human Rights Council sessions including the organization of side events, public statements
  • Support GIN staff in the organization of an intersessional meeting with UN representatives, state delegates and GIN speakers
  • Support the development of GIN advocacy resources

 

b) The successful candidate will also be expected to support GIN staff in other activities as well including

  • Development of GIN online communications (maintenance of the website and social media channel) in accordance with advocacy work
  • Regular communications with GIN members as it relates to GIN’s advocacy work
