Santa Khurai is an interfaith leader, writer, and human rights advocate working at the intersections of gender, sexuality, faith, and decolonial justice. She serves as Co-Chair of the GLBTIQA+ Interfaith & Intercultural Network Australia (GIIN), Equal Voices, Rainbow Catholics Interagency Australia, and the Asia Pacific Rainbow Catholics Network.
Author of The Yellow Sparrow (2023), shortlisted for the Goenka Literary Award and Rainbow Literary Award 2024, Santa is also completing Laws and Identity: A Quest for Citizenship from Manipur Indigenous Nupi Maanbi and Nupa Maanba with UC Berkeley’s Decolonizing Gender and Sexuality programme.
For over two decades, Santa has led pioneering transgender advocacy in Manipur—advancing legal reforms, education access, mental-health curriculum change, community livelihoods, and state welfare systems. Her work has supported more than 4,000 transgender individuals across Northeast India in accessing essential documentation, healthcare, social protection, and legal aid.
Santa has delivered statements at the United Nations, served on the Global Advisory Committee of the Equal Asia Foundation, and continues to build inclusive faith and human rights spaces as a queer person of colour, migrant, and community-rooted leader.
